This session has already taken place. If you attended or watched the recording and you would like to claim CME credit, please use the following link: https://wsu.cloud-cme.com/cme/ClaimCredit?P=850&eventid=2485

This Might Hurt is a feature-length (120-min) documentary that follows three people with chronic pain. They enroll in a program run by Howard Schubiner, MD, that focuses on uncovering hidden causes of pain, and retraining their brains to dampen the pain signal. The treatment shown in this film, Emotional Acceptance and Expression Therapy (EA-ET), was proven effective in several randomized, controlled treatment studies.

This learning activity will consist of:

(1) Independently watching the documentary entitled "This Might Hurt" via special access link during the September 9-30, 2024 viewing window.

(2) An MC-led Question and Answer (Q&A) live session on Wednesday, September 18,  noon - 1 PM PDT with film director Marion Cunningham and Dr. Rebecca Kennedy, a family medicine physician in Portland, Oregon who trained under Dr. Schubiner and applies EA-ET and other neuroplasticity techniques in her clinical practice. Attendees will explore pain care inequities and discuss how to improve access to psychological pain care approaches.

This session is being offered as part of a WSU series of livestreamed webinars and on-demand online courses. The learning series is titled Pain Management to Support Integrative, Person-Centered Care. It is designed to meet the need for current pain management education focused on integrative evidence-based approaches and risk reduction for person-centered care. Both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches will be highlighted in this series, among experts representing varied health and therapeutic professions.

ACCME Objectives

  2. Identify the types of pain EA-ET has been shown to reduce through research.
  3. Understand how the brain can be retrained to reduce pain using psychological approaches.

ACPE Pharmacist Objectives
  1. Recognize how Emotional Acceptance and Expression Therapy (EA-ET) can be applied to treat people with chronic pain.
  2. Identify the types of pain EA-ET has been shown to reduce through research.
  3. Understand how the brain can be retrained to reduce pain using psychological approaches.
