Offer CME Credit

No matter where you are in the process of planning your educational activity, the CME staff can assist you with offering continuing education credits. In support of our 2024-2029 CME Strategic Plan, we've streamlined and simplified the process for obtaining approval for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM.

Your first step is to contact us by submitting a CME Meeting Request Form or by emailing us.

We look forward to learning about your educational opportunity!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to submit an application?
Our online application portal is currently being updated for a more streamlined user experience. In the meantime, the information required to request accreditation for your activity or program will be requested by email. After an initial meeting, CME staff will send an email to the program planners with all of the information required to review your request for accreditation. You can simply reply to that email with the required information.

What does the process look like?
At the initial discovery meeting we'll ask for details about your activity such as format, learning objectives, faculty, needs assessment, and gap analysis. Following the first meeting, we will send a project summary with a request for any additional information needed. Once all required information is received, the CME unit moves forward with the review and approval process. We will notify you of your approval status and provide information for next steps, including how your learners can claim credit.

Is there anything I should do to prepare for a discovery meeting?
Not necessarily. We can start with a conversation about what you have in mind. If you have some information already, sharing that with our team in advance of the discovery meeting can help streamline the process.

Items to consider:

  • Who will be involved with the design, delivery, and administration of the activity? Do you have their contact information?
  • Do you have learning objectives drafted?
  • Do you have any documentation of a needs assessment for this content? A gap analysis?

It's completely alright if you have none of the above - we will help you collect what you need.

How long does it take to be approved for CME?
We aim to move applications through the review and approval process as quickly as possible; however some programs can require additional layers of review to ensure they meet accreditation standards. Applications submitted less than 60 days prior to the activity or program start date may incur an expedited processing fee.

Is there a fee associated with requesting CME?
Please review the CME Fee Schedule. If you're not sure of the category for your project, please contact us.

What if I want to repeat a program that was previously approved for CME?
The process will be similar. If most of the details remain the same, we can typically duplicate the prior application and begin the review and approval process.

What are the different types of activities that can qualify for CME?
In order for a learning opportunity to qualify for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM the content should be addressing an identified need for healthcare practitioners. Activities can be live (in-person, virtual, or hybrid), enduring (such as eLearning or recorded lectures), journal-based, test item writing, manuscript review, performance improvement, internet point-of-care learning, or other instructional formats appropriate to learners.

I already have a recurring series approved for CME. How do I provide information about an upcoming offering that is part of that series?
Please submit an activity information form, which provides all the details we need to build the activity in CloudCME. We will follow-up with information on how your learners can claim credit. Please submit the form at least one week before the activity.

Can I also offer continuing education credits from other accrediting organization (ANCC, ACPE, etc.)?
When we hold our initial discovery meeting, please mention that you are interested in offering additional CE credits. We can partner with other accredited providers to see what's possible. Many of our current CME activities are jointly accredited with Nursing (ANCC) and/or Pharmacy (ACPE).

Where can I learn more about how WSU's guidelines for CME reflect ACCME best practices?
We're so glad you asked! Please review WSU's Guidelines for Ensuring Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education for more information on this topic.

Where can I learn about AMA PRA Category 2 CreditTM ?
AMA PRA Category 2 Credit TM
is self-designated and self-claimed by individual physicians for participation in educational activities not certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit and need to meet certain criteria. Visit the American Medical Academy Credits page to learn more.

What are the ACCME accreditation criteria and standards?
Please visit the ACCME Accreditation Criteria page.

What are desirable physician attributes?
To maintain compliance with the Core Accreditation Criteria of the ACCME, activities should be developed in the context of desirable physician attributes. These attributes are collectively identified by the Institute of Medicine (IOM), American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)/ Accreditation Council of Continuing Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IEC). Review IOM/ABMS/ACGME/ICE competencies.
