Overview

Although most faculty teach in the clinical and/or classroom setting, we receive limited education regarding the science of learning. During this session, we will review the evidence behind what makes learning “stick” and provide practical examples of how to integrate these evidence-based learning principles into our teaching, whether it’s in the classroom or clinical setting.

The Graduate Medical Education programs and Office of Faculty Development design and deliver up-to-date content in medical education topics for practitioners working with residents. The aim of these sessions is to promote active learning and engagement, fostering a community of faculty as educators, and improving the overall health of our patients and communities.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate methods for effectively teaching learners in a variety of clinical environments.
  2. Demonstrate methods for assessing learners in a variety of clinical environments.
  3. Name, define, explain, and provide concrete examples of evidence-based learning principles that apply to medical education.
  4. Incorporate evidence-based learning principles into classroom and clinical teaching sessions.
